The Opening Ceremony was attended by Mr. Nguyen Dong Tien – Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam, Mr.  Mr. Yanagi Jun –  Deputy Ambassador of Japan Embassy in Vietnam,  Chief Representative of JETRO in Hanoi, Chairman of the Japan Business Association in Vietnam, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Small and Medium Enterprises, senior leaders of SuMi TRUST and BIDV, and a large number of Vietnamese as well as Japanese enterprises.

In its beginning stage, BSL focuses on developing financial leasing services for Vietnamese small and medium enterprises and FDI enterprises in Vietnam. BSL also connects with manufacturers and equipment suppliers to assist end-users in finding machinery and equipment that meet their production needs as well as to consult the appropriate financing solution through leasing the customers.

With the combination of SuMi TRUST’s international experience and experties from  leasing business in Japan and BIDV’s extensive customer network, BSL offers diversified financial leasing products and brings about a medium to long-term capital solution for enterprises to expand their businesses by investing in machineries and equipment.

As a sequence of BSL’s Opening Ceremony, on the same day of September 8, 2017, BIDV and SuMi TRUST held a seminar entitled “Financial leasing – mid and long-term funding source – Japanese experience and development prospect in Vietnam”.

At the Seminar, speakers presented analyses about Vietnam’s economy, overview of Vietnam’s financial market and development trend in the coming period. According to economic expert Can Van Luc, Vietnam’s economy is forecasted to continue its stable growth with GDP growth of > 6.5% in the period 2017-2020, which creates a high demand for machinery, equipment and means of road transport as investments for business development of enterprises. Financial leasing will be a crucial solution for enterprises to overcome barriers to capital access (especially mid and long-term capital, in the context that banks are limiting the extension of their short-term capital for mid and long-term loans; as well as fast-growing or small and medium enterprises are in lack of assets to be used as collaterals).

Chief Representative of JETRO in Ha Noi presented the investment trend of Japanese investors to Vietnam and objectively assessed the advantages as well as disadvantages of investment environment in Vietnam. The Small and Medium Business Association, which represents Vietnamese enterprises, delivered a keynote addressing the needs for and the financing capacity of mid and long-term capital. He also, in point of view of a user, shared that finance lease is an effective source of mid and long-term financing for enterprises in general and especially SMEs in particular.

Besides the content about policies, market orientations, the Seminar also had specialized presentations on financial leasing products which brought useful information to the participated enterprises. Specialist of Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Panasonic Finance (SMTPFC – the financial leasing company of SuMi TRUST Group) introduced details of the financial leasing market in Japan and the habit of using these products of Japanese businesses. In Japan, 96.7% of enterprises have been using financial leasing. The analysis from SMTPFC said that financial leasing plays an important role in the economic growth of Japan as well as the development of Japanese businesses. In addition, Mr. Nguyen Thieu Son – Chief Executive Officer of BSL introduced the financial leasing products of the company, superior advantage of the products which were built based on the know-how and technology of Japan, close relationship with suppliers of SuMi TRUST, as well as the nationwide network of BIDV.

Through the Seminar, the organizers – BIDV and SuMi TRUST – hope to bring to enterprises a deeper understanding of financial leasing products, thereby contributing to the development of this market in the future and the overall development of the financial market of Vietnam.
